The first thing you notice about Jules is his warm, engaging manner as a teacher. One immediately gets the impression that he is there for you, and not simply to telegraph what a great player he is.
I came to Jules as an early intermediate guitar player seeking to learn slide guitar. Not only has he encouraged me to continue with my studies, despite how technically difficult slide is, but he has been the much needed enthusiastic supporter. He provides support through a big heart and his having found a passionate way to be in the world as an outstanding teacher - the teacher you needed at just the right moment in your career. As a teacher and a player and a person, he is one of one.
What about Jules’s command of the subject matter? Is he that great player? Watch his YouTube channel. Listen to him play Jeff Beck. Or Derek Trucks. Or Duane Allman. Or visit an iconic vocal melody on slide. He’s hitting the notes. More importantly, he’s channeling those great musicians and works in his own voice with astounding technique. Yes, he is a truly great player. And I am beyond fortunate to be his student.

Jules is and continues to be an amazing teacher. He has opened the doors to so many musical concepts for me. Every lesson is an amazing exploration into basic concepts, advanced concepts and the threads that connect them. He has legitimately changed my life, playing and performance. Taking lessons with Jules has been transformational for my slide playing, but also for fretted guitar…Our discussions on particular players strategies and how Jules might incorporate those in his playing have given me a fantastic methodology on how to take those strategies,and others I develop, into my playing…it’s not just the mechanics of what’s being played it’s the thought process of why something was played, that’s what has been the integral part of what Jules has achieved with my playing and really my experience with the guitar overall…studying slide with Jules has improved my ear exponentially and really opened up my approach to guitar…we’ve had some great discussions on music and the guitar, always entertaining and interesting , and importantly, useful for playing music…
